初請失業金人數低於預期，金價有所回落

4月23日，美國公佈了投資者密切關注的4月18日初請失業金人數情況，資料增長443萬，略低於市場預期，由於市場對該資料的疲弱有一定的預期，因此在資料公佈後，美元指數有所上漲，現貨黃金則從高位稍微回落。
具體資料顯示，美國截至4月18日當周初請失業金人數實際公佈442.70萬，預期值450萬，前值524.5萬。
美國截至4月18日當周初請失業金人數四周均值實際公佈578.65萬，前值550.85萬；美國截至4月11日當周續請失業金人數實際公佈1597.60萬，預期1673.8萬，前值1197.6萬。
初請失業金人數幾乎與預估一致，為440萬人，而續請失業金人數再次低於預期。這是最近幾周反復出現的一種模式，雖然人們很容易認為這是好消息(也許人們已經重新找到工作了)，但還是要保持一定的謹慎。每週初請失業金人數與續請失業金人數之比創歷史新高，儘管預估為減少；更關鍵的是觀察持續的申領人數何時趨於平穩並開始下降
分析指出，美國經濟用了10年時間才創造了2300萬個就業崗位。而疫情大流行僅用了一個月的時間就摧毀了幾乎同樣多的就業崗位。
面對壓力，美國總統特朗普制定了一個分階段開放全國的計畫。雖然許多美國人痛恨疫情給他們的生活帶來的傷害，但企業領導人和各州州長都警告說，在取消封鎖令和其他限制措施前，需要做更多的病毒檢測，需要更多的個人保護裝置。公共衛生專家也提醒，過快地放鬆限制可能導致病毒捲土重來。
另有分析指出，在四個星期內，大衰退之後長達10年的經濟復蘇帶來的所有就業增長都被抹去了。但同樣重要的是，過去一個月的大部分失業不太可能是永久性的。如果經濟很快開始復蘇，許多甚至大多數工人將會被重新雇用或重新就業。
