7月3日，現貨黃金在高位附近震盪，美元指數反彈受阻。而美國對歐盟價值40億美元商品徵收關稅，刺激市場避險需求。同時美國6月ADP就業數據不及預期，給非農數據帶來一定的陰霾。美聯儲可能進行更多的寬鬆措施，進一步加重美元的壓力。
美國之前曾列出價值210億美元、可能面臨關稅的歐洲商品清單，這次又在此基礎上增加了40億美元的歐洲商品清單，為彼此各個行業都拉響了警鈴。
美國已針對歐盟補貼空客一事，要求WTO批准其對價值112億美元的商品徵稅，該案還有待WTO裁決。雙方在歐洲空中客車和美國波音的補貼問題上已經爭吵很久，已經在世界貿易組織(WTO)爭執了15年。
投資者依然對全球貿易局勢憂心忡忡，美國威脅要對歐盟價值40億美元的商品徵稅，讓市場人氣受挫，近兩個交易日美元面臨的賣壓再度明顯放大。
但貿易方面的消息人士表示，通過擴大徵稅商品清單，納入梨、豬肉等農產品，美國藉此向歐盟加大施壓，同時也向國內一個至關重要的群體發出支持信號。
特朗普貿易事務顧問納瓦羅對CNBC表示，美國政府可能在幾周後宣佈哪些商品將被美國加征關稅。他說：“我們尋求的是公平和互惠的貿易，沒有來自外國政府的大量補貼來搶我們的工作。”
美國6月ADP就業人數實際僅錄得10.20萬，不及預期的14萬。雖然好於前值2.70萬，但該數據仍表明，美國經濟創造就業機會似乎仍比較困難。
這也給更為市場關注的美國6月非農數據蒙上了陰影。因宏觀數據表現不穩定，經濟學家認為，美國經濟2019年增速將放緩，2020年甚至可能出現衰退。
隨著對經濟增長的擔憂，市場預期美聯儲將採取應對政策。利率期貨市場預期，美聯儲7月鐵定降息，直接降息50個基點的概率為27.6%，較一周前高出3個百分點。

市場普遍預計美聯儲的下一步行動將在7月30-31日政策會議上降息，因通脹走弱和全球貿易形勢的不確定性。
週三出爐的其他數據顯示，美國5月份的貿易逆差躍升至5個月高點。消費品進口額增長了14億美元，而汽車和零部件進口額飆升了23億美元，創歷史新高。
