10月28日，歐美新冠疫情持續惡化，多國強化封鎖措施，加上英國，脫歐協商充滿不確定性，美國財政刺激計畫難以順利實行，英鎊刷新至一周新低，冒險情緒急速降溫，多國貨幣均走軟。
美國兒科學會和兒童醫院協會日前聯合發佈的最新報告顯示，自新冠疫情暴發以來，美國已有近80萬名兒童確診感染新冠病毒。近期美國兒童感染病例快速增加，兩周內新增超9萬例。德國羅伯特科赫研究所指出，德國報告新增14964例新冠病例。
德國總理默克爾正在推動收緊對行動和接觸的限制措施，包括關閉酒吧、餐廳和休閒設施一直到11月底。這些將從11月4日開始一直生效到月底的擬議限制措施仍需與各州領導人討論。根據機構獲得的聯邦政府草案綱要檔，在德國許多地方已經不可能進行有效的接觸者追蹤，如果不實施進一步的限制，感染數量的指數級增長將在數周內令衛生系統不堪重負，並導致重病和死亡人數大幅增加。
英國日漸悲觀的經濟前景，似乎將推動英國央行在下周加碼已經十分龐大的債券購買刺激計畫，這將是自新冠疫情爆發以來的第三次加碼，也加大英鎊賣壓。英國央行行長貝利10月18日曾表示，“我們正處於前所未有的經濟不確定性之中，風險仍然嚴重偏向下行。”英國央行8月稱，英國經濟產出到2021年下半年可能恢復到疫情前的水準。
此外據英國每日電訊報指出，歐洲理事會主席米歇爾警告稱，英國脫歐談判正處於最艱難時刻。三菱日聯研究主管Derek Halpenny指出，我們越來越相信，英鎊從脫歐貿易協議獲得的提振可能不大。昨天就是一個很好的例子，顯示一些好消息根本無法給予英鎊太多幫助。
