9月24日，美國公佈當周初請失業金數據，數據結果超出市場預期，數據公佈後，現貨黃金價格在低位維持穩定，而且該數據也表明美國就業市場仍面臨較大的困難，急需破局。
具體數據顯示，美國截至9月19日當周初請失業金人數實際公佈87萬人，預期84萬人，前值86萬人。
機構評美國當周初請失業金數據指出，美國上周初請失業金人數意外增加，支持了有關新冠疫情後的經濟復蘇正在失去動力、政府資金不斷減少的觀點。政府用於幫助企業的資金實際上已經枯竭，如果白宮和國會不提供另一輪救援計畫，成千上萬的航空公司工作人員下個月將面臨裁員或休假。
分析表示，新冠病毒導致特許經營企業大量倒閉和裁員。這些都是當地的社區企業，比如健身房、乾洗店、餐館和酒吧。國會迫切需要採取更多具有廣泛基礎的長期行動，以避免更多的關閉和裁員，尤其是受衝擊最嚴重的企業。
為了穩定失業率，美國8月份新增140萬個就業崗位。該措施的實施讓失業率開始下降，這表明美國勞動力市場在從新型冠狀病毒流行中緩慢而穩定地復蘇。本月早些時候，美國勞工部（Labor Department）的就業報告顯示，失業率從6月份的10.2%和4月份14.7%的峰值大幅下降至8.4%。這是自3月份以來失業率首次低於10%。
財長努欽作證時亦指，與白宮仍在尋求與國會兩黨就新一輪刺激法案達成協議，並為就業人士和企業提供支持。他同意目前仍然需要有針對性的一攬子計畫，華府已準備好達成兩黨協議。另外努欽對降低大眾商業貸款專案的貸款規模下限表示歡迎，但鮑威爾表示發放規模較小的貸款需要建立全新的信貸安排機制，否則更適合於通過薪酬保障計畫(PPP)發放。
