今年整个贵金属市场都表现低迷，而铂金是表现最差的贵金属之一，今年至今的跌幅已近超过了26%。
今年大众的排放丑闻是使得铂金市场承受极大打击的影响因素，但另一方面，铂金市场在今年一直就受到供需面因素的影响。
Metals Focus指出，铂金市场总体的供应过剩是一大不利因素。在2014年南非铂金生产行业曾经经历了长达5个月的罢工，但南非铂金产量所遭受的打击却没有市场此前预期的那么大。
今年南非兰特兑美元大跌了差不多30%，因此南非的矿业获得了意外推动，贵金属的产量由此也获得支撑。
和铂金一样，今年钯金的表现也非常糟糕，在2014年钯金价格还有过11%的涨幅，但今年至今钯金价格已经跌去了近10%。自5月末之后的13周内，钯金价格更是大跌34%，在8月更是触及518美元/盎司的5年低点。
