纸黄金做空是指通过引入保证金交易的模式，在尚未买入纸黄金的情况下，在交易平台按投资者除了本金之外的交易余额，以借出的方式给予投资者进场做空的机会，例如杠杆比例为1:3，交易价值为30000元的纸黄金时，投资者只要10000元的本金就能持仓入市，其余20000元都是向交易平台借入的资金，当仓位了结时，10000元的本金将退还到投资者的纸黄金账户中，因此投资者尚未买入纸黄金也能先执行卖出。
二、纸黄金做空操作
纸黄金做空操作，需要在含杠杆的条件下进行，以上述的1:3的杠杆比例为例子说明，杠杆倍数就是3，假设操作一手纸黄金空单，采取双向委托模式，为获利和止损委托相结合的模式。
例子：
当前纸黄金报价为239.5元/克，获利委托价为235元/克，止损委托价为242元/克，即时操作一手为10克的纸黄金空单，所需的资金投入是：
即时纸黄金报价x 手数x 该手对应克数=239.5元/克x 1手x 10克=2395元，
杠杆倍数为3，交易该手纸黄金空单的实际资金=2395元/3=798元。
当纸黄金价格下跌至235元/克时，所得空单的盘面盈利=卖出价-买入价=239.5-235=4.5元，实际盈利为4.5*3（杠杆倍数）=13.5元。
