从正常上说，现货黄金翻仓，一般发生在正处于盈利阶段的现货黄金交易单子中，现货黄金行情的总体方向是朝投资者该次建仓的交易方向运行的，原来轻仓做单的投资者，这时则可以继续加大仓位，保证获利的最大化，同时把止损位置与交易方向同向移动。但这种加仓方法也具有较大的风险，特别是现货黄金价格运行点位与投资者设定止盈目标点位相距很近的时候，按原来的建仓资金大小继续加仓的话，如果此时面临现货黄金行情反转，则会令已建仓位陷入亏损，原有的盈利会被扫掉，所以在金价接近止盈位置时，又没有利好消息的进一步推动下，不建议进一步创建现货黄金翻仓。
在盈利时候，与现货黄金翻仓相反的做法就是金字塔加仓法，即每一次的入金数都比前一次的入金数量减少，避免发生行情反转时难以保住利润或未能及时退场。
