金價于1580美元上方微升，為連續第二個交易日走升，市場擔心突發公共衛生事件可能衝擊新興市場經濟，提升了黃金的避險買需。英國央行1月決議壓制降息預期，令美元加速下滑，鮑威爾對通脹率低於2%的目標並不滿意，加劇了市場對美聯儲今年將至少降息一次的預期，進一步擴大了對美元計價大宗商品的支撐，稍晚將出爐美國四季度GDP，若資料不佳，黃金有望鞏固1580關口支撐。
稍早英國1月央行以7-2-0投票支持維穩利率，下調增長預期，預計CPI低於目標水準直至2021年底，到期債券的再投資將於3月9日開始。利率決議公佈前，市場對英國央行1月降息幾率的計價仍接近50%，鴿派維穩提振英鎊短線快速拉升70餘點至1.3095，加劇了美元跌勢。
美國國債收益率持續下跌，進一步強化了投資者的避險情緒。這是在美國聯邦公開市場委員會(FOMC)政策更新的鴿派評估的背景下做出的，並進一步在推高無收益的黃金價格方面發揮了作用。正如市場普遍預期的那樣，美國央行將基準利率維持在1.5%-1.75%的區間不變。
美聯儲提及了突發公共衛生事件帶來的新風險，鮑威爾預期通脹在未來數月更接近2%，並決心避免通脹持續低於2%。也就是說，即使美國通脹仍進一步上漲，美聯儲可能持續降息。
但是金價上漲導致一些買家，尤其是中國和印度等主要市場的零售消費者，減少了黃金購買量。2019年10-12月黃金的總需求為1033噸，較2018年同期下降9%。第四季度，黃金珠寶的製造量年率下降9%至509噸，金條和硬幣的零售購買量下降了7%至297噸，而央行的購買量下降18%，達到132噸。
市場參與者關注稍晚將公佈美國第四季度國內生產總值(GDP)。在關鍵的美國宏觀經濟資料公佈之前，由美聯儲引導的市場波動可能會進一步創造一些有意義的交易機會。
