美聯儲考慮今年開始減碼，美元從四個半月高位回落
周三(8月18日)美元指數變動不大，報93.15，從四個半月高位93.26下滑。美元稍早上漲，因對全球經濟的擔憂揮之不去，迫使投資者在美元中尋求避險。現貨黃金在美聯儲公布7月政策會議記錄後轉跌為升，但美元堅挺限制避險資金流入黃金，此前對德爾塔變種病毒傳播的擔憂推動避險買盤。原油期貨價格周三創近3個月來的最低收盤價。盡管美國政府數據顯示美國上周原油庫存下降超過300萬桶，但新冠疫情對能源需求的影響仍令原油價格承壓。

大多數成員認為在2021年減碼QE“可能是適宜的”，但其他幾人2022年減碼QE才合理。幾名聯儲官員對準備“相對迅速地”減碼QE持審慎態度，另外幾人認為“未來一段時間”可能都不會減碼QE。與會者討論資産購買，包括朝著FOMC充分就業和物價穩定取得進展。大多數成員認為潛在的減碼抵押貸款支持證券（MBS）和減碼美國國債是有益的。他們還考慮經濟條件滿足時如何調整資産購買。部分與會者認為減碼QE將取決于經濟形勢，減碼QE的行動與加息的時間點無關。數名聯儲官員表示，如果新冠肺炎變異毒株在美國的傳播情況惡化，他們恐怕會改變（對貨幣政策的）立場。與會者們感覺近期物價數據可能是暫時性的。
美聯儲主席認為季度加息合理
美國聖路易斯聯儲主席布拉德表示，預計美國通脹將在2022年保持在2.5%上方，我傾向于FOMC在2022年一季度完成減碼QE的任務，從而讓FOMC有若幹選項；FOMC在2022年四季度加息“是合理的”。美國已經朝著實現美聯儲（維持物價穩定和實現充分就業）取得大量進展。到2022年3月份，預計將看到就業市場恢複至新冠肺炎流行病疫情爆發之前的水平。無需讓勞動力市場的強勁程度恢複至疫情之前的水平。美國經濟顯然已經適應流行病疫情，德爾塔變異毒株的擴散可能並不會阻礙經濟的適應能力。
