1月14日，美國公佈了市場比較關注的12月末季凋CPI數據，數據結果顯示沒有達到市場的預期，在數據公佈後，現貨黃金出現了小幅上漲，而美聯儲對未來政策還沒有明確表示，但不及預期的通脹數據以及部分官員言論表示，美聯儲加息的門檻會進一步提高。
具體數據顯示，美國12月未季調CPI年率實際公佈2.3%，預期2.4%，前值2.1%；美國12月未季調核心CPI年率實際公佈2.3%，預期2.3%，前值2.3%。 美國12月未季調CPI指數實際公佈256.97，預期257.17，前值257.21。
美國12月CPI數據小幅上漲，月度潛在通脹壓力有所回落。此外，美國12月未季調CPI年率錄得2.3%，創下2018年10月以來的最高水準。這或能使美聯儲至少在今年年底前保持基準利率在當前水準不變。

紐約聯邦儲備銀行總裁威廉姆斯表示，美聯儲保持並達成2%通脹目標至關重要，即使全球低利率可能會持續。威廉姆斯的話稱，“對低中性利率有一個艱難的適應過程，這些因素基本上是我們在接下來五到十年所要解決的問題。如果通脹持續像這樣低於我們的目標水準，那麼通脹預期的下行趨勢就可能持續，通脹預期將遠低於目標水準。”
分析指出，美聯儲明確表示，他們將容忍較高的通貨膨脹，這意味著他們已經設定了很高的通脹門檻，分析認為2020年美聯儲可能會進一步提高對於通脹走高的容忍，因為美聯儲內部出現了更多的鴿派轉向。
